Why African Youth
Voluntary Exchange Services? (AYVE)
The aim of the
AYVES action is based on three fundamentals principles.
To provide an
informal intercultural learning experience for young people and young adults
by encouraging their social integration, active participation, increasing
their employability and giving them global opportunities to show solidarity
with other people in rural areas of Africa.
Areas of Focus:
Community and organization Capacity building and development, Peace and
Conflict, Environment, Health, Governance, Micro Finance,
Women and Gender.
Responsibilities
of the sending organization or community:
Preparation: The
preparation required includes helping the volunteer to find and contact a
host organization or community. In addition, volunteers need to be prepared
for their stay in Africa, according to their individual need(including
travel and visa). The sending organization is obliged to make sure that the
volunteer attends a pre-departure session.
The sending
organization should keep in contact with the volunteer and with host
organization during the project. To help avoid crisis, monitor and follow up
of volunteer upon return.
Providing support
for adequate stipend on personal effects, health insurance and local
transport cost for the duration.
For continuity,
the sending organization should evaluate the volunteer’s service. The should
provide support for the volunteer so that he/she can integrate into the
community at home after the end of the service, advice him on how to use his
experiences acquired and support for finding a place of work or creating
his/her on carrier unlimited.
The host
organization can be:
A
non-governmental organization
A community based
association
Local authority
A local, non
profit initiative
A faith based
local institution.
Responsibilities of the host organization
Approving and
Updating the volunteer before arrival, advised and guided in order to use
his/her personal abilities. Organize an awareness seminar upon arrival with
a participatory work plan concept. The integration of the volunteer/s in the
life of the local community, finding a mentor or peer partner directly
responsible for the volunteer’s linguistic and pedagogical support.
Assurance of adequate food.
AYEVS
duration:
In other to have
clear goals and well –defined pedagogical characteristics, the volunteers
should enjoy their exchange for either short term or long term, varying from
3weeks and 6months.
